Ministers in Idaho threatened with jail and daily fines for declining to perform same-sex wedding

When Democrats first started pushing to legalize same-sex marriages a few people warned that if that happened, very soon ministers would be forced to perform same-sex weddings even if they believed that went against their religious beliefs.

Democrats loudly, indignantly yelled that this could not possibly, ever, ever happen, and claimed that anyone who believed that it would or could or might was a knuckle-dragging homophobe.

Well well well...what have we here?

Donald and Evelyn Knapp are ordained ministers who own a wedding chapel in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  Recently a gay couple asked them to perform their wedding ceremony.  The Knapp's were happy to host the couple's reception but declined to perform the wedding, believing that doing so would violate their religious beliefs.

But like most cities in the U.S., Coeur d'Alene has a municipal ordinance that bars discrimination by any business against gays (and other favored groups), and now the city council has threatened the Knapps with a 180-day jail term and a $1,000 fine for each day they decline to perform the same-sex wedding.

But don't think for a moment that Democrats will concede that conservatives were right when they warned years ago that exactly this type of thing would happen.  Oh no.o.o.oo....!  Because, you see, citizen, no one in government is actually, you know, forcing the Knapps to perform the wedding.  Not at all, citizen!

They're just imposing a legal penalty on 'em for "discrimination" for declining to do so.  And who could possibly object to enforcing a valid city ordinance?

Now, I couldn't care less about who wants to get married.  My point here is that no one should ever, ever, ever believe the claims of Democrats/socialists/liberals/"progressives" that easily predictable outcomes from a certain policy or law won't--in fact can't possibly--happen.

They can't concede that the predicted, abusive results will happen because doing so would make it a lot harder to achieve their goals.  Whether they're really too dumb to grasp the accuracy of the warning or simply don't care is largely irrelevant.

Never, ever trust government to not abuse any power it takes.  And never trust someone who claims that won't--in fact can't possibly--happen.
